I speak with people every day that give me a list of excuses why they don’t want or need a website. Why all the excuses? Doesn’t everyone have a website? In this day and age if you are not online promoting your business you are invisible to the masses. My wife is a hunter. She will shop online for days to save $1. If you are not online she will never find you. You are going to laugh at this one….”I am too busy for a website”. Really? People have the misconception that a website is a lot of work. Well, they can be! You can have two types of websites. A static website is a site where the text never changes. These are great for beginners and those that are too busy. The other option is dynamic site with changing content. A dynamic site can be updated by you on a regular basis or you can use technology to rotate information on your homepage. So why is this so important? People want to come back to your site if it is important to them but if they never see it getting updates they won’t come back. Imagine if Domino’s had a static website that just promoted pizza’s but they never updated it with specials or new products. Not good and certainly not as effective.
Here is a list of the 10 Most Common Misconceptions about Online Presence:
1) I can’t handle the business because I am too busy – Oh, but you can, by using some of the latest technology to help you organize and manage your online business.
2) I can’t afford a website – You may not be able to but can you NOT afford to have a website. Most websites will pay for themselves within the first 6 months. You can find websites for $250 upfront but be careful because you can also find some for twenty or thirty thousand dollars.
3) I am not selling anything. I don’t need a website – You have to make money somehow and your clients are looking for what you do and looking to see who they can trust. A website is an online space for you to take the opportunity to explain why people should trust you.
4) I can’t maintain the site – You don’t have to. Most business owners are busy and outsource their social media marketing and SEO efforts.
5) It cost a lot monthly – It absolutely can if you don’t have the right package for you. If it is too expensive you are not with the right company. You should be seeing a tremendous return on your investment. Cost will not be a concern soon after value is received. Your monthly cost for a static website can average around $10 monthly.
There you have it…..if you can think of others please feel free to post them below and I will address them.
